A model and actress that carries the next generation, Sumire has appeared in magazines and campaigns both domestic and international. As the daughter of world renowned singer-songwriter Chara who charms fans with her unique taste and voice, and actor Tadanobu Asano who has made appearances in Hollywood shows and films, Sumire is the child of two of Japan’s top creatives. Ever since she was a kid, she was exposed to the vintage clothing that her parents wore and through that experience came to love clothes herself. This led her to eventually strive to become a model who could stylishly wear the clothes she loved so dearly. The absolute criteria that she holds all of her clothes to boils down to one simple fact: that they should be able to be worn for a long time.
“I’m very conscious of whether or not I can wear my clothes for a long time. In other words, it’s about how long of a journey I can take with them. Much of this of course has to do with the design of the clothes themselves. I just recently had to get rid of a pair of boots that I had worn since I was in middle school (laughs). This kind of value ties in strongly with my love of vintage clothes and the everyday outfits that I put together with them. One reason for my love of secondhand clothes is that they’re broken in and comfortable to wear, but furthermore, I enjoy sensing the history of the garment when I wear it.”
