As a blossoming young Japanese actress, Shioli Kutsuna excels in a multitude of lanes, appearing in dramas, commercials, and movies, and even working as a fashion model. After appearing in renowned filmmaker Wayne Wang’s 2016, “While the Women Are Sleeping”, she turned her eyes towards the world, and in 2019 moved her base of operations from Japan to Hollywood in order to take her next step as an actress. After being born and growing up in Australia, an audition at the age of 14 changed her life path and she decided to move to Japan with her family to pursue her acting career.
For this shoot, we chose to shoot in Nakano, the town she first lived in when she moved to Japan. Whether it’s the famous Nakano Broadway that acts as a mecca for Japanese subcultures or the old-fashioned shopping streets, Nakano is an interesting city with various Japanese elements spread all over. “The high school I used to attend is in this area and I used to visit Nakano Broadway on my way home. Although stopping by somewhere on the way home was forbidden by school rules, my friends and I would always stop by places, eat, ice cream, and have fun. Those are some good memories that I cherish even now (laughs) “.
